The 20-year-old spacecraft will plunge into Saturn in the early morning of Sept. 15 to protect the planet’s moons from any possibility of contamination by terrestrial organisms. Cassini discovered a global ocean with possible hydrothermal activity on Enceladus and liquid methane seas on Titan, raising the two moons high on the list of candidates in the search for alien life.
Coverage will also be streamed live to the NASA and NASAJPL Facebook pages.
• The Grand Finale live commentary will run for approximately 90 minutes, starting at 4 a.m. The program will include views from the MSA and interviews with Project Manager Earl Maize, Project Scientist Linda Spilker, JPL Director Mike Watkins and NASA Director of Planetary Science Jim Green.
• A post-mission news briefing will follow the Grand Finale starting at 6:30 a.m. Friday.
